What are Extended Services? |
Extended Services is a government project that aims to improve outcomes for children and their families and is at the heart of Every Child Matters (ECM). The ECM outcomes are for every child and young person:

Extended Services can include childcare, adult education, parenting support programmes, community-based health and social care services, after school activities and community access. The government has set out a core offer of extended services that they would like all schools to offer access to (in partnership with local authorities and local providers) by 2010:
----------------------------------------------------------- Our Approach The expectation is that these extended services will be developed in response to the needs and wishes of parents, pupils and the wider community. Providing easier access to all types of services around the places where children and young people spend most of their time is key to achieving the five Every Child Matters outcomes of ensuring that children stay safe, are healthy, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well being. Three Ways School is already providing lots of extended services and is working to develop the range of extended services to meet the needs of pupils, parents and the wider community. To find out what’s happening click on the links. A key principle of the government’s vision for extended schools is that schools should work closely with each other and with other agencies to provide access to the core offer of extended services. Three Ways will be working closely with other Schools and agencies within Bath and North East Somerset to provide a full range of services. An extended school coordinator (esco) has been appointed by Three Ways to work with schools and other partners to develop the range of extended services in the area, in response to local demand. Lucy Beattie will be working Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Three Ways and can be contacted on 01225 838070 or by emailing lucy.beattie@threeways.bathnes.sch.uk . ----------------------------------------------------------- The Benefits Nationally, there is evidence that extended services can help to:
During school inspections, Ofsted will report on how extended services are contributing to improved outcomes for children and young people. Many schools in BANES are already seeing the benefits of offering extended services for pupils and families. We are always keen to promote and share good practice so if you have an example of an extended service that you’d like to be included then please get in touch with Lucy Beattie (esco). |
